Clydesdale Mares - Page 1

Bay ~ Chestnut ~ Palomino

Please NOTE: Many Grand Champion Clydesdales are the same color, or have the same markings, or actually are the same horses. Positive identification can be difficult. This section may contain errors, and definitely contains some lame or missing photos.

Bay

Name: Miss Maggie

Breed: Shire Horse
Year: 1999
Description: Bay Mare. Brown with darker brown shading on body. Black shading around legs. Mane and tail are black.
Markings: Large facial blaze that includes the nostrils. Blended white markings on legs; these fade into the black shading. Nostril is painted dark.
Similars: Lady Grace is similar, but will have a cleaner (non-blended) facial blaze that does not include the nostrils.

Photo Notes: This photo sucks! Can you donate a better one?

Name: Unknown

Breed: Clydesdale
Year: 2002-2004
Description: Dark bay mare. Dark Brown with darker brown shading on body. Black shading around muzzle and legs. Mane and tail are black.
Markings: Fully marked face and legs. All markings are clean-edged.

Notes: This Euro-exclusive mare was sold in a family set with an identical stallion and foal.

Name: Rhapsody's Song

Breed: Clydesdale
Year: 2001
Description: Red bay mare. Reddish brown with darker brown shading on body. Black shading around eyes, muzzle, and legs. Mane and tail are black.
Markings: Fully marked.

Name: 'Ello Love

Name: Lovely Lass

Breed: Clydesdale
Year: 2000
Description: Red bay mare. Reddish brown with extensive, darker brown/blackish shading on body. Black shading around eyes, muzzle, and legs. Mane and tail are black.

Similars: Several, but Lovely Lass has darker and more extensive body shading.

Notes:

Name: Lady Grace

Breed: Clydesdale
Year: 2002-2003
Description: Dark bay mare. Relatively flat, dark brown body with darker shading. Black shading around muzzle and legs.
Markings: Fully marked with blaze and four socks that are lower than standard. Also, the socks are blended into the black leg shading.

Similars: Miss Maggie will be similar, but have a larger, blended white facial mark that includes most of the muzzle, and will have a dark-painted nostril.

Notes: This family was promotionally described as "Brown," an antiquated, regional term for Dark Bay.

Name: No Name

Breed: Clydesdale
Year: 2008
Description: Red bay mare. Reddish brown with darker brown shading on body. Black shading around eyes, muzzle, and legs. Mane and tail are black.
Markings: Fully marked.

Similars: Many. This mare could be one of the many leftovers that were common during this time period, a re-pack of Rhapsody's Song or any other red bay mare.
Notes: This is a prototype pic. The actual has never been compared, but should be similar and may include the cropped tail.

This horse was released with the "Farm Collection" (a small offshoot of the dismal Horse Country brand) just before Alpha International went under (2008-2009).

Chestnut

Name: Molly

Breed: Clydesdale
Year: 1997
Description: Chestnut-like Mare. Medium brown body with darker shading. Gray shading around muzzle. Black shading around leg joints. Mane and tail are dark brown.
Markings: Fully marked with blaze and white socks. Socks have yellow shading at the edges.

Similars: Lady Janice is similar, but may be simpler in color. She may have a brown muzzle instead of gray, and will have brown leg shading instead of black. Also, Janice's socks seem to be higher than Molly's.

Notes: An oddly colored mare. The black leg shading suggests Bay, but the hair color says Chestnut.

Photo Notes: Many thanks go to Wixom for this great photo of Molly!

Markings: Faint, blended blaze. Blended white socks on all four legs.
